Is Your Brain too Serious?

Sometimes one must question the seriousness of others.

For example, take the day my husband asked me to marry him.  Typically, the bride-to-be answers the question,”Will you marry me?” with an answer like, “Yes!” or “Absolutely!”

Instead, I answered the big question with: “Are you serious?!”

I guess I asked this because I was not expecting to be proposed to at that moment (and I was dating a joker.) However, he was quite serious and it didn’t take me long to respond with a yes. We still laugh about my initial response.

Did you know laughter can be really good for your brain? I’m sure you have heard the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” I think this saying holds some truth (in moderation.)  Laughter has also caused some people to have heart attacks and strokes (yikes!).

Some of the benefits of laughter that you may have heard of are:

1. Helps release negative emotions

2. Lowers blood pressure

3. Reduces stress hormones

Studies are being done to show how our brain affects our immune system and psychoneuroimmunologists are curious to find out more.

How about you?  Perhaps you appreciate a good laugh?  It seems the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor knows how to laugh and help people feel better.

Therapeutic humor is any intervention that promotes health and wellness by stimulating a playful discovery, expression or appreciation of the absurdity or incongruity of life’s situations. This intervention may enhance health or be used as a complementary treatment of illness to facilitate healing or coping, whether physical, emotional, cognitive, social or spiritual.” http://www.aath.org/general-information

Make sure you get out there today, April 1 (aka  April Fool’s Day), and make someone laugh!

(But only ask someone to marry you if you are serious!)  🙂

Do not pee sign

Why is it that kids, especially little boys, find potty words and potty talk so hilarious?
